It’s fun but don’t take it too seriously I’ve taken a number of genetic tests, both for ancestry and for health: I have taken the test, the , the National Geographic’s Genographic Project and I’ve had a physician direct health related genetic test (which included working with a genetic counselor). I’ve have a reasonable understanding of what kinds of information you can infer from these tests and I’m aware of their limitations. Of all these I found the Orig3n test the lest compelling. Why? Well while it’s slick, well packaged, and you get fast results, I think they are vastly overstating the efficacy of their test results on your health. Just because you have a variant on a single gene doesn’t really tell you a lot because most traits are result of the interaction of many genes. And we know…

Easy to use, but unresponsive support There is little to say about the product itself. You receive a sample collection swab, a postage-paid envelope, and a set of easy to follow instructions.Unfortunately, there is no feedback once the sample is mailed. I have received no notification that Orig3n has received my sample. My results are due, and I contacted Orig3n support by e-mail, but five days have passed with no response from them. For the price of the product, I would hope for better feedback.UPDATE: A few days after posting the negative review above, I finally started to get some feedback from Orig3n. My results followed in short order. They are as interesting as they are confusing, which is not surprising. There are results for each gene tested, but no overall summary that gives insight to a fitness program. For example, I have some genes that indicate I am suited for endurance sports such as long distance running, but others that indicate that perhaps endurance is not my forte. On the other…

Really Cool!! Just got my results back and it is really cool! The particular one I ordered, the Fit Test, is just what it says, it’s about your “fitness” DNA. I was asked it this will tell you the types of food you should and the answer is no, not really. In the metabolism section of my fit test, it did list a couple recommendations but it did not go into a full detail. It did however, lead me to another test “What to feed your DNA” for $149. Which is why I only have this 4 stars….it seemed a little like bait and switch in my opinion. But, the fit test will tell you all about your fitness level, your muscle strength and recovery, your endurance, your metabolism, etc.. I feel that for the price, it should have given more nutritional information but that’s just my opinion.
